Winter Springs, FL, Commission Meeting
9 March 2026
David Williamson (207 words)

Mayor, Commissioners, staff, and members of the community, thank you for the opportunity to offer a few opening words to solemnize tonight’s meeting.

As we gather to do the public’s work, we find ourselves near International Women’s Day ...a moment that invites reflection on the long and unfinished journey toward equality.

Two hundred fifty years ago this month, in March of 1776, as the United States was just being imagined…Abigail Adams wrote to her husband John with a simple reminder: “Remember the ladies.”

Those three words carried a large and noble idea—that the promise of a free society works best when it includes everyone.

Across generations, progress has come through the steady work of those who sought to widen opportunity, dignity, and voice for others.

Women’s leadership, service, and persistence have strengthened the civic life that communities rely upon.

The decisions made in this chamber shape the lives of families, workers, students, and neighbors throughout Winter Springs.

May today’s discussions be thoughtful and guided by reason.

May differing views be heard with clarity and respect.

And may every decision reflect a shared commitment to fairness, opportunity, and the well-being of all who call this city home.

Thank you.
