Eustis, FL, Council Meeting
2 April 2026
David Williamson (246 words)

Mayor, commissioners, city staff, and members of the community...

Thank you for the opportunity to offer a few words as you begin your work this evening.

We gather here not just as individuals, but as neighbors–who share something simple and powerful: a responsibility to one another. The work of a city is not abstract. It lives in roads and infrastructure we rely on, in parks that we enjoy, in decisions that shape daily life in quiet but lasting ways. It is, at its core, about people.

April is often recognized as a time that celebrates service and community. It is a reminder that progress rarely comes from a single grand act, but from steady, thoughtful effort. From people showing up. From listening, even when it is difficult. From choosing cooperation over division.

With that shared commitment in mind, let us take a moment to reflect on what it means to serve well.

  • To weigh decisions carefully.

  • To speak honestly.

  • To remain open to new information and differing perspectives.

And to remember that behind every policy or vote are real lives, each with their own hopes and their own challenges.

May this meeting be guided by clarity, fairness, and a shared commitment to the common good.

May the work done here reflect not only good governance, but also respect for the dignity of every person in the community.

And may we leave tonight a little more connected, and even more determined to build something worthwhile together.
